Charcuterie for Kids
Happy Monday!
Somehow we are in the last few days of summer break here in Utah. Thankfully, I’ve still got a few weeks until my little one heads back to preschool, and I’m soaking every minute up. But for most kids around here, school starts on Wednesday! Whhhatttt? I swear we were just celebrating Memorial Day. But oh well. I’ll have to get over it and move on because school is here and I’ve got the sweetest treat idea for you to celebrate!
I know what you’re thinking… school starts in three days, I don’t have time to be doing themed activities or treats at this point! And that’s totally valid. Although, if you’re swamped and haven’t done any back to school celebrations thus far, this might just be exactly the type of treat for you!
Introducing: Back to School Charcuteries for Kids!
Okay okay... the name isn’t great… I’ll try to come up with something better. :) Regardless, you get the idea! If you’ve been wanting to do something fun or festive for back to school, but haven’t had the time - this activity is for you! It takes hardly any prep, and you can customize it to whatever is already in your kitchen.
This wasn’t an activity that I had originally planned on doing, but it popped in my head as I was falling asleep last night and I knew I wanted to make it happen! So I woke up this morning, looked in my pantry and did what I could with the things I already had. It didn’t go quite as I had planned in my head, but I still kind of love it because of how cute, quick, and easy it turned out to be.
Follow these quick steps, and you’ll have a festive treat in no time:
Download the printables, here.
You can pick from an apple, bus, or pencil. There are two different sizes of pencils for your personal preference. There’s also smaller versions of each one if you want to print for additional festivities!
Cut and laminate each image.
If you don’t have a laminator, that’s okay! You can use a ziplock bag too.
Search your fridge and pantry for snacks that resemble the colors in the images. You’ll want things that are yellow, beige, pink/red, and/or black. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Yellow/Orange: Mangos, Bananas, Pineapple, Peppers, Oranges, Goldfish, Cheese Cubes, Cheddar Popcorn, Cheesitz, Starbursts
Beige: Popcorn, Almonds, Cashews, Bananas, Vanilla Wafers, Mini Cookies, Animal Crackers, Ritz Crackers, Graham Crackers, Caramel Popcorn, Peanut Butter Chips
Red/Pink: Raspberries, Strawberries, Starburst, Watermelon, Red Grapes, Pomegranates, Tomatoes, Pepperonis
Black: Chocolate Chips, Dark Chocolate covered Acai Berries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Blue tortilla chips
Put the image on a large plate or platter. Cover each color with the matching food.
Or have your little one help you do it as a color matching activity
That’s it! You’ve prepared a cute, themed, after school snack that can be waiting for your kids on their first day of school.
Sending all of the warmest wishes for a great school year!
Cheers,
Meg
