All Things Apples!

If you've recently gone apple picking with your kids and find yourself with more apples than you know what to do with, don’t worry! There are plenty of fun, creative, and even educational activities that can keep those apples from going to waste. Here are some exciting ideas that your whole family can enjoy:

1. Create Apple “Banana Boats”

Turn your apples into mini sailboats with this imaginative activity! All you need is an apple, some paper, toothpicks, and a bit of creativity. Cut the apple in half, and let your kids decorate small paper flags, then tape them to toothpicks to create sails. Stick the toothpicks into the apples, and voila! Your apple boats are ready to set sail. You can float them in a nearby pond, a river, or even in a bathtub or sensory water table. It’s a fantastic way to get outside or engage in some indoor water play.

2. Apple Stamping

Turn apple halves into adorable, easy-to-make stamps! Simply cut the apples in half and have your kids dip them in paint to create apple prints on paper. They can stamp them in various colors, create patterns, or even turn them into cute animals or abstract designs by adding details. Apple stamping is a fun way to explore art and use up those extra apples at the same time.

3. Apple Dessert Delights

After all the crafting, why not end with a tasty treat? There are so many delicious desserts you can make with apples! You can bake apple crisp, dip caramel apples, whip up some homemade applesauce, or make apple turnovers with store-bought puff pastry.

Last year I even put out some simple ingredients and had my kids make up their own apple treats. We had apple slices, pretzels, rolos, chocolate, caramel, m&m’s, oreos, etc. Think, caramel apples, but bite size! My kids had fun being creative, and the end results were actually delicious! These apple desserts will ensure no apple goes to waste!

4. Make-Believe Apple Orchard

No more apples left on the tree? No problem! Set up a pretend apple orchard in your home or backyard. Grab a basket and hide some of your apples around the space, letting your kids go on an apple-picking adventure. You can add a bit of extra fun by giving them "challenges" like finding the reddest apple or picking five apples in one minute. Not only does this activity encourage imaginative play, but it also reinforces counting and color recognition.

With these fun and easy activities, you'll have no problem keeping your apples from going to waste while making lasting memories with your kids. Which apple activity will you try first?

Cheers,

Meg
