Apple Alphabet Activities
Looking for easy and engaging ways to review letter sounds with your little ones? Don’t overthink it. Some of the best activities require the least amount of prep or work, and for these activities, I’ve taken care of all of the prep work for you!
Our free apple alphabet flashcards are perfect for some festive, hands-on learning! Below are a few simple activities to make learning fun while reinforcing those important letter sounds. All you need to do is download the apple flashcards, cut them out, and get started!
1. Letter Sound Hunt
Spread the flashcards on the floor and call out a letter sound, like “Find the sound /b/.” Have your child search for the apple with the matching letter. For an extra challenge, hide the flashcards around the room for a scavenger hunt!
2. Memory Match
Turn two sets of flashcards face down and play a memory matching game. Each time your child flips a card, have them say the letter sound out loud. If they find a match, they keep the pair!
3. Apple Tree Toss
Draw or tape a large apple tree on the wall and tape a few flashcards onto the branches. Toss a soft ball or bean bag, and wherever it lands, your child has to say the letter sound and give an example word that starts with that sound!
4. Letter Sound Relay
Set up a simple obstacle course with flashcards scattered throughout. As your child moves through the course, they stop at each apple, say the letter sound, and race to the next one. This is great for getting energy out while reinforcing learning!
5. Sight Words in a Basket
Cut a slit in the top of the paper basket that is included in the free apple download. Next, put all of the apples around the basket and give your child a word to spell. They will then gather the correct apples and arrange them on the basket to spell that given word. Once it’s confirmed correct, have your child place those apples in the basket and repeat with a new word.
These activities are a great way to build letter sound recognition while keeping things fun and interactive. Download your free apple alphabet flashcards here and start playing today!
