It’s U-Pick Season!
I’ve been a little quieter on the blog the last couple of weeks. We’ve still been here, doing activities, but I’ve found myself trying to put my phone down more and plan more adventures in the outdoors as we soak up every minute of good weather. (Can you tell I’m not much of a winter person? It’s fine. We’ll get through it one way or another!) But! Until then, we’re making the most of every second of outdoor time. One of our favorite outdoor activities lately has been visiting U-Pick farms!
Bringing little ones to a U-pick farm is the perfect way to connect them with nature and give them a deeper understanding of where their food comes from! It provides a hands-on activity that fosters sensory exploration as they touch, smell and taste different crops. And boy did they taste it!!
Lucky for us, here in Utah there are plenty of U-pick opportunities right here in our backyard. If you’re not local to Utah, a quick google search should lead you to any U-picks nearby. But for those of you in the central Utah area, I’ve done some of the work for you!
The farms we’ve visited this year are:
Wadley Farms - Pleasant Grove - Berries
By appointment only. Schedule a time to come pick fresh raspberries and blackberries Monday - Saturday, 6:30am - 11am & 5pm - Sunset. Weather Dependent.
Text (385) 208-5094 to make an appointment.
Berries were $4/pound.
1100 W 3540 N St, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062
Cherry Hill Farms Alpine at Burgess Orchards - Alpine - Apples
Burgess U-Pick is only open on certain Saturdays. Follow them on Instagram to know when the next day will be. They base it on peak ripeness of the apples so they usually don’t know until a few days before.
No appointment necessary. Just be sure to go on the day they’re open to U-Pick.
In years past we’ve paid a small entrance fee in addition to a fee for a whole box. However, this year they just had us pay $15/box. And they let us load it up as high as we wanted!
Bonus: They have the yummiest peach sundaes for sale out front! Be sure to get it with graham on top!
627 Alpine Hwy, Alpine, UT 84004
UPDATE: As of 9/11/23 Burgess U-Pick is open Sept 11-Sept 15, 5:00-7:30 PM in Alpine. It is a honey crisp apple u-pick. No entrance fee. Apples charged at $3/lb. Minimum purchase of 10lbs.
We’re only a couple of weeks into September, so we’ve got plenty more to try out this season. (Although we’ve got to make it through our entire box of apples first!) Once we do, here are some additional u-pick options that I’ve heard great things about. And that I plan to visit one day:
Rocky Top Fruit Farm - Payson - Variety of Fruit
Depending on the time of year, you can pick sweet cherries, apricots, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, and apples.
Follow them on Facebook to know the current u-pick offering, dates, and times.
8648 S 6200 W Payson, UT 84651
Riley’s Farm Fresh - Genola - Variety of Fruit and Veggies
This farm has a variety of u-pick options depending on the time of year. However, all of my friends RAVE about their peaches. I was lucky enough to try some last year and they were pretty dang good.
Other U-pick options include: flowers, zucchini, cucumbers, summer squash, sweet corn, raspberries, peppers, chilis, tomatoes, apples, peaches, winter squash, and pumpkins. Visit their website for approximate calendar estimates. And join their FB page for harvest updates.
294 N. 800 E. Genola, UT 84655
McBride Briar Patch - Mapleton - Berries
Raspberries, Blackberries, and Strawberries
Open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 am till dusk.
$3.50/pound
1849 S. 2100 W Mapleton, UT 84664
Stanton Cherries - Payson - Cherries
Season usually ends early July, so it’s closed right now.
Follow them on Facebook so you’ll be first to know when they open next year!
Last year, cherries were $2.50/pound
6088 W 10000 S Payson, UT 84651
This post isn’t sponsored! And I have no affiliation with any of these farms. I just love a good activity that gets us outside and entertains my kids. And bonus- we leave with yummy fruit!!
Tag me if you end up going to any of them. And if you LOVE any places we missed, let me know! I’d love to add them to the list.
Happy Picking!
Cheers,
Meg
